Are you DRIVEN to Succeed?

The more that I watch VH1’s specials, the more I become convinced that rock stars do not accidentally stumble into success.   Success is the sole purpose of a rock star’s existence.  Everything in Britney Spear’s entire being tells her that "2nd best" is not enough.  Of all the “Behind the Music” and “Driven” episodes that I have seen, I have never heard a star say anything to the effect of, “Well, this whole rock star thing is great, but what I REALLY wanted to with my life is to be that guy who gets to wear the Garth Brooks headset at Burger King…….”.    NO ONE SAYS THAT!  Everyone at the top of the music food chain is there, because they knew from the time of rational (or sometimes irrational) reasoning that they were meant for success.  And from that point on, they took every step necessary to insure that success.

I say all of this simply as an exhortation to you as a striving (or starving) musician to STAY FOCUSED. Focused on what?  Your personal goals and objectives.  If you’re convinced that your life’s calling is to play at your local bars and pubs every night of the week, then give it 150%.   If you believe that you’re meant for “MTV” success, then give it your all and surround yourself with people that will help you and encourage you along the way.   Be intentional with the steps that you take in your life’s journey.  I can promise you that if you find that you’re unable to get motivated and give 150%, you’re not going to get to that amazing place that you’ve dreamed about.  You’re basically telling yourself through your apathy and/or inactivity, that "2nd best" is OK.  Your success is up to YOU.  You can be your best friend or your own worst enemy.

Here’s a quick tip to help you stay focused:  Think about that talent/hobby that you know without a doubt wherein you have developed, or are continuing to develop, excellent proficiency.  You remember what it took to get you to that point.  You remember those long, strenuous hours of frustration and practice.  You also remember all of those times where your practice paid off with a great performance or show of your talent.  Whatever it is that you’re relating to with this picture, put that motivation that you have already proved is within you towards that drive for your current dream of what YOU have defined as success.
